LMDE 4 "Debbie" booted into UEFI mode from the USB drive, no problem.Ubuntu 20.04 and Mint 19.3 installed in UEFI mode. Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 20.04, and Mint 19.3 all successfully installed on the computer's hard drive.

It seems that the problem lies with the computer's BIOS.
